چکیده

In this paper a mathematical model was developed to study the dynamics of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) the in Sudan. To develop this model, the dynamics of the disease between three different populations, human, reservoir and vector populations was considered. The model analysis is done and the equilibrium points are analyzed to establish their stability. The threshold of the disease, the basic reproduction number, is established for which the disease can be eliminated. Results show that the disease can be eliminated under certain conditions. It is also concluded that human treatment helps in disease control, but it is not sufficient to eliminate the disease and it should be followed by vector control in order to eradicate the disease from the human population.

Qualitative and Semi-Quantitative Comparison of an Rk39 Strip Test and Direct Agglutination Test for Detection of Anti-Leishmania Donovani Antibodies in the Sudan

Background: Until now, the comparison of the rK39 strip test (RKT) and direct ag-glutination test (DAT) for detection of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is exclusively based on either positive or negative qualification of the reaction outcome. Objective: In this study, we compared the diagnostic performance of RKT and DAT for VL both qualitatively and semi-quantitatively. Methods: For comparison ba...

A Capture ELISA for the Diagnosis of Visceral Leishmaniasis Using a Monoclonal Antibody against a Leishmanial

capture ELISA system was developed for diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) using a monoclonal antibody raised against an antigen previously detected in the urine of VL patients. Urine samples from confirmed VL cases from Yemen, Nepal, Spain, Sudan and Brazil were tested in the capture ELISA in comparison with urine samples from endemic and non-endemic areas along with urine samples from pa...

Validation of a β-ME ELISA for Detection of Anti Leishmania donovani Antibodies in Eastern Sudan

Background: A β-mercaptoethnol (β-ME)-treated promastigote antigen of L. donovani was successfully employed in direct agglutination test (DAT) for the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). Objective: The β-ME-treated antigen was further incorporated into an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay set-up (β-ME ELISA) and evaluated for VL diagnosis against outcome of reference freeze-dried DAT (FD-...

Modeling and analyzing the transmission dynamics of visceral leishmaniasis.

In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to study the transmission dynamics of visceral leishmaniasis. Three populations: dogs, sandflies and humans, are considered in the model. Based on recent studies, we include vertical transmission of dogs in the spread of the disease. We also investigate the impact of asymptomatic humans and dogs as secondary reservoirs of the parasites. The basic r...
